This sleepy village has it all! Take a look around and discover a watermill, a historic wooden bridge and the best: freshly baked bread and cakes from the mill shop (open Friday to Sunday).

The small town Buchfart is located in one of the most beautiful spots in the middle Ilm Valley and is divided by the river Ilm. Many hiking trails intersect here. Its cultural-historical features make the place a popular destination. In the middle of the village is the 43 m long, covered and round geschalte historic wooden bridge worth seeing. It is a listed building.

The place name Buchfart refers to an important Furtstelle in Buchenwald. The place was first documented in 1348 with Lutolf von Heitingsburg residence in Buchverte mentioned (Wikipedia).

After the pottery path the view opens on Buchfahrt. Before you can see the rock caves (unfortunately not reachable) and then go on the opposite side up to Balsamine (excursion restaurant). There you sit well, food is good and the view over the Ilmtal is also very nice.

Many hiking trails intersect here, e.g. the Goethewanderweg, the three towers path. It is all the nicer that some nice rest areas as well as some gastronomic facilities invite us to rest here, e.g. Balsamines, mill shop.
