During a ride in the "Weltballon" tethered balloon, passengers can gaze down into the heart of Berlin from a height of 150 meters.

No matter where you are in Berlin, you can see it almost everywhere: The Berlin Weltballon is one of the largest tethered balloons in the world. Not far from Checkpoint Charlie, the balloon – secured to the ground by ropes – regularly ascends, offering passengers in the gondola a unique panoramic view of the city center.

The starting point for the Weltballon ride is the base station at the corner of Zimmerstraße and Wilhelmstraße. The tethered balloon is filled with non-flammable helium and is attached to the ground via a steel cable with a 10-ton winch. The gondola can accommodate up to 30 people.

Balloon rides are possible year-round until the evening hours. In autumn and winter, the ride is weather dependent. A ride in the Weltballon lasts approximately 15 minutes and costs approximately €20 per person.

Who wants to enjoy a quiet view of the rooftops of Berlin, right in the middle of the city, should not miss this "journey".

So far, I haven't managed to ascend in the balloon.

But every time I pass by here, I encourage myself to take that step.
