The bronze sculpture is one of three casts. Aachen and Gießen are two other locations. The "Neighing Stallion" in front of the theater on the Hornwerk is probably the most important sculpture in Nienburg in terms of art history. The creator of the 3.35 meter high bronze horse, Gerhard Marcks, is one of the most famous expressionist sculptors in Germany alongside Käthe Kollwitz and Ernst Barlach. The "Neighing Stallion" was unveiled on the occasion of the inauguration of the theater and the opening of the "Weserschlößchen" in 1989.
