It is certain that the mill already existed in 1350 and was expanded into a double mill, half of which was on the territory of Riethoven. The owner at the time was the Abbey of Echternach, which carried out mining activities, which increased the need for milling capacity. The Riethoven mill was used as an oil mill and the Waalrese mill as a flour mill.

In 1792, however, the mill came into the possession of Pieter Vreede, a cloth manufacturer from Leiden. He had domestic labor performed by weavers in Tilburg and eventually, because he was a Patriot and experienced political difficulties in Leiden, he also brought his cloth factory to Tilburg. Pieter Vreede used the mill as a fulling mill. He himself left for Antwerp in 1816, but his son continued to live in Riethoven as a miller and died there in 1846. The water mill remained in the hands of the Vreede family until 1876, after which it became the property of the Van Gastel family until 1951. In 1962 the mill was destroyed by a storm. (Wikipedia)
