In the center of the Hanseatic city of Salzwedel is the town hall tower of the former town hall of the city. Built in 1618, the building was destroyed in 1895 during a major fire. Only the town hall tower was preserved.

Every year on Christmas Eve at 18 o'clock the tower blowers rise on the town hall tower and let their Christmas songs sound. It's a wonderful atmosphere when the streets fill with people.
