Leipzig Central Station is the hub of Leipzig's transport network and, due to its architecture and shopping opportunities, is very popular with both tourists and the people of Leipzig themselves.
The station area covers around 80,000 square meters, giving Leipzig the title of "Europe's largest terminus". With around 1,300 trains and 120,000 travelers and visitors every day, it is very busy.
Since 2013, the Leipzig city tunnel, which integrates Leipzig into the network of the new S-Bahn Central Germany and further strengthens local and long-distance traffic, has also contributed to the heavy use of the station.leipzig.de/freizeit-kultur-und-tourismus/tourism/sightseeing/main-station

Track 1 + 2 are in the tunnel. Since I had almost speculated with the time when I passed 7 minutes before the departure relaxed at track 8 and actually could see track 2 (at least that's what I thought) - but then it's only deep down (stairs, escalator, elevator).
So plan for track 1 + 2 extra time.
