Leipzig City Library (Former Grassimuseum)

Impressive construction. I always find such large libraries interesting.

The building of the current Leipzig City Library on Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz was built from 1894 to 1897 according to plans by Hugo Licht. At that time, it housed the "Museum of Ethnology" or "Grassi Museum" until 1926. It also served as an exhibition center and the headquarters of a combine before becoming the City Library in 1990.

The building that houses today's Leipzig City Library, originally known as the Old Grassi Museum, was built between 1894 and 1897. After suffering significant damage during the war, it was used as an office building from the 1950s to the 1990s and eventually converted into a modern library.Today, the historic building houses the Leipzig City Library, which has undergone extensive renovation and redesign to meet the requirements of a modern library. The library attracts approximately one million visitors annually and offers extensive services such as self-service checkout and nighttime accessibility. The library has not only functional but also cultural significance, offering visitors a wide range of media and events.
