The Hartenfels, the 531m high local mountain of Neukirchen, is a geologically and historically remarkable mountain range in the east of the village. A mighty rock tower made of franco dolomite builds the summit of the Hartenfels (climbing garden). From the summit of the Hartenfels you have a beautiful view to the south and west over Neukirchen and the surrounding area.

From Wikipedia: The stable Hartenfels is the remnant of a high medieval Adelsburg that once rose on an imposing rock spur. The castle stable is located east of the parish village of Neukirchen near Sulzbach-Rosenberg in the eponymous village in the district of Amberg-Sulzbach in Bavaria, Germany. There are no historical news from the castle, only two ditches and a small wall remains from it.
