The legend of the devil's pulpit: In the old days, a holy man came to Illschwang and preached the doctrine of the cross to the heathen. There was something wonderful in his nature, and the power of his speech transformed the hearts of those who heard him, so that the number of those who confessed Christ increased day by day.
The devil saw this with great annoyance and considered how he should destroy the good work again. So he set up his pulpit on a rock in the forest and preached at night to the people who flocked there. He heard more than the holy man, for he exhorted the people to eat and drink diligently, to hustle and fight, and to indulge all the lusts of the flesh. Soon the devil's hearers blasphemed the holy man who preached the word of God by day, and resolved to strangle him in his tent at night. But when they got there, they did not find him, for he had gone out into the forest to pray.
Early in the morning when he came home, there were heathens standing in front of his hut. Then he stood in their midst, reproached them with their evil thoughts and murderous lusts, and exhorted them to be baptized and converted, or else they would die a horrible death.
Then the heathen fell at the feet of the man of God, confessed their guilt and received baptism. After that, a Christian church was built in Illschwang opposite the "Devil's Pulpit." It still stands towering in the forest to this day.

From the saga of the Bayerische Landen:
In ancient times a holy man came to Illschwang and preached the doctrine of the cross to the heathen. There was something wonderful in his nature and the violence of his speech transformed the hearts of those who heard him, so that the number of those who confessed Christ increased from day to day.

The devil saw this with great annoyance and considered how he should destroy the good work again. So he pitched his pulpit on a rock in the forest and preached to the people pouring in at night. He had more listeners than the holy man, for he exhorted the people to eat and drink diligently, to rush and fight, and to give way to all lusts of the flesh.

Soon the devil's listeners were blaspheming the holy man, who preached the word of God by day, and decided to strangle him in his tent at night. When they got there, however, they did not find him, because he had gone out into the forest to pray.

Early in the morning when he returned home, pagans stood in front of his hut. Then he stepped among them, held up their evil thoughts and lust for murder, and admonished them to be baptized and converted, otherwise they would die a terrible death.

Then the heathen fell at the feet of the man of God, confessed their guilt and received baptism. After that, a Christian church was built in Illschwang opposite the "Teufelskanzel." It still stands high up in the forest today.

A mystical place, from a certain point of view it looks like a small Birgland "Stonehenge"
