As early as 1927, the municipality of Türnich built a "bathing establishment" in the Erftflut Canal in Balkhausen, which was used with pleasure and frequently. After the Second World War, it was poorly restored, but soon no longer met the hygienic requirements. In addition, it no longer met the growing sport and leisure needs of the population. In 1949, planning began for a modern outdoor pool, which was inaugurated three years later and at the time was one of the most modern outdoor pools in the entire Bergheim district. The bathroom still exists today and continues to enjoy great popularity.

If you cycle along the Erft flood canal at Türnich, Balkhausen and Brüggen, you have to pay close attention. Only a small board on a log draws attention to a forgotten place, which escapes the vast majority of hikers and cyclists: at the height of Balkhausen are still the remains of a swimming pool to see, which was in operation in the first half of the 20th century. The entry stairs on the Erftufer is still there. - Source: ksta.de/24437566 © 2017

Should you look at yourself. Actually nothing special ... but tiny for an outdoor pool!
