Absolutely worth it – you can enjoy a good gravel bike ride here even during the week. On weekends, there are usually quite a few hikers and families out and about.

Hasbruch jungle
In 1938, an area of 29 hectares in the core area was placed under nature protection as the “Hasbruch Primeval Forest”. The forest is still known under this name throughout Europe today. Nevertheless, it is actually not a “primeval forest”, but rather a former Hutewald that has been unmanaged for a long time.
The “primeval forest” areas that remained after the war and several intervening forest parts in the area of the Brook- and Hohlbäke stream valleys were combined into a 55.5 hectare nature reserve in 1989. In essence, 39.3 hectares of this remain completely left to their own devices as natural forest.
Natural forests are forests that are left entirely to their own dynamic development. They primarily serve conservation goals and research into selected forest ecosystems. The Hasbruch and especially the “primeval forest plots” have attracted a large number of researchers and naturalists. Research activities have been intensified in recent decades.
The natural forest
Since parts of the natural forest “Urwald Hasbruch” have not been managed for over 150 years, the natural forest area in Hasbruch also represents a special feature among the natural forest areas in Germany. (Source: hasbruch.de)
