The Wangermeer was created when Friesland needed the special soil for raising the dike. 1.3 million tons were mined here. The site used to be the location of the Bundeswehr. You can still see the buildings today. . have all been privatized. And a new building area was created.

The Wangermeer is an approximately 100 hectare artificial recreational lake. To open up the northern side of the lake, a bridge promenade for pedestrians and cyclists of about 325 meters was built across the lake, which, due to its height, makes it possible to cross small sailboats.
