The Evangelical Lutheran Church Church of St. Sixtus and Sinicius goes back to a wooden church founded by Saint Ansgar in the 9th century. A stone church was built around 1143 on a six meter high terp.
The church's brick bell tower, like almost all churches on the East Frisian peninsula, stands separately and was built around 1500.

Not only the water tower and the church in Hohenkirchen are great highlights that Hohenkirchen has to offer.
