Schönenbach is considered the most beautiful settlement in the Bregenzerwald.
Picturesque impressions in Schönenbach
Whether in summer or winter, on foot, by mountain bike or on cross-country skis: you're happy to head to Schönenbach. The Vorsäß settlement is situated in a very picturesque location on a wide, around 1,000 meter high valley floor. Wooden huts dominate the picture. Farmers and dairymen spend the early summer and autumn here while their cows graze the alpine pastures. People also go to Schönenbach because they have particularly good cheese knöpfle here. These are eaten in a harmonious atmosphere in the Egender hunting inn.

Schönenbach in summer
The Schönenbach settlement can be reached via several hiking trails. Starting points for longer hikes are Bezau, Bizau, Sibratsgfäll and Egg-Schetteregg. The valley floor can be explored on a leisurely circular hiking trail. A very scenic, not overly demanding mountain bike tour leads from Sibratsgfäll to Schönenbach. It takes around two hours to get there and back. Schönenbach is also a destination for those interested in caves. Near the Vorsäß settlement is the “Schneckenlochhöhle”, which is only accessible with guided tours.
Tip: In the summer months there is a bus from Bezau and Bizau to Schönenbach several times a day. Holders of the Bregenzerwald & Großes Walsertal guest card can take the bus for free. The settlement can also be reached by car on the toll road from Bizau.

Hikes, bike tours, gravel bikes or mountain tours lead to Schönenbach. It is great that there is something for every athlete or just a walker. I love the mountain tour from Bezau over the Schreibersattel and Hengstieg here. Or great, longer MB tour from Egg, Schetteregg, Schönenbach, Bezau Rimsgund, Andelsbuch to Egg.
