A chapel, probably made of wood, was first mentioned in 1130 in Horchheim. A church tower was built and converted into a church at the end of the 12th century. The archbishop of Trier received the church in 1213 with papal confirmation from Innocent III. the right of baptism and funeral. The patron of this church was Our Lady. Until the final separation in 1583, it was a branch of St. Johannis in Niederlahnstein. Afterwards the patronage changed to St. Maximin von Trier.
