In Freiberg there are still three of the original 5 post miles columns to see. All are well preserved and reconstructed.

The post mile column at the former Meißner Tor, now Meißner Gasse, dates from 1723. In Freiberg there are still three post mile columns today. That is rather rare, only a few cities have built gate pillars. In 1721 the erection of the pillars in Saxony was ordered, and initially there should be a pillar at each city gate. Soon the cities protested, they had no money and so the decree was changed, a pillar in the market square was enough. Freiberg could probably afford the gate pillars.
