Hochtor

The highest point on the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. Fantastic view but also a lot of wind. Up here, you should always be prepared for any kind of weather.

When the weather is nice, it's definitely a dream, but unfortunately we were completely unlucky in 2011.
2020 another attempt in the best weather.
The Hochtor is the border between Carinthia and Salzburg.
It is the second highest point, the only higher point is the Edelweißspitze.

The high alpine road of the Großglockner is magically attractive. I drove up there with my wife in 2018 and then my decision was quickly made: I have to ride my racing bike up here. In July 2019 the time had come. Unfortunately I had foggy weather but a dry road. Only at Fuscher Törl did visibility improve. As a result, I didn't have as much to do with car/motorcycle traffic. Important, very important: lighting on the bike, also in front, light vest with reflective material.
At the Hochtor (2504 m) the temperature was less than 7 degrees. Departure to Heiligenblut should be done carefully. Stop in between, so that the circulation is not strained too much.
Would like to repeat this trip again, but in sunny weather. Even then put a light vest on the backpack, then the other road users will have it easier with the visibility.

The 311 m long summit tunnel at the Hochtor forms the highest point of the Grossglockner High Alpine Road.
I would have liked to ride my bike this year, but unfortunately it wasn't possible for me due to the temperatures. It will definitely be tackled next year and then a little earlier depending on the season when the temperatures are warmer. My supervisor Helmut has communicated everything dbzgl. There is nothing to add. Sensational up there.... So close to heaven
