The Eagle Stone is a well-weathered block of gritstone that is steeped in local folklore. Apparently, local men had to climb the stone to demonstrate their eligibility to marry. These days, it’s a popular bouldering spot with spectacular panoramic views.

Uphill to the monument is fairly straight forward followed by a right turn and the Eagle stone is on your right, although you really can’t miss it!

Mountain biking

Ride up from the cross roads on the main road from Baslow to Sheffield up towards Curbar gap. Take the first gate on your left follow this gradually uphill to reach the monument. continue up to the junction at the top to view Chatsworth house in the valley. turn right towards Curbar gap to ride past the Eagle stone. all this in aprox. 200 metres 😎
