In contrast to other karst areas, the karst landscape of the southern Harz Zechstein belt is covered by vegetation. It is therefore referred to as the "Green Karst". In the Mühlberg area, diverse grassland and near-natural forests cover this attractive section of the southern Harz gypsum karst.
