The chapel of Our Lady on the Stake of 1833 is located in a beautiful area with lots of recreation and on the path of walks in the Valley of the Zwarte Beek. The chapel played the role of a church for a while, especially at the end of 1834 when the church of Koersel, where the chapel is located, was destroyed. The origin of the chapel, which quickly became a place of pilgrimage, dates back to 1826. In 1939, the chapel was expanded to the size it has today. You will find the entire origin story on site. In addition to the chapel, there is also a Marian Park with scenes of the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady and a Calvary. That park dates from 1910-1911 and was renovated in the 1950s.

The chapel was created from the miraculous healing of Jan Nicolaes Swartenbroekx. Jan Nicolaes Swartenbroekx was on his way on the heath between Helchteren, Hechtel and Coursel. Suddenly he got severe pains in his intestines. He was convinced that he would die. He prayed to the Holy Virgin Mary for healing. He crawled to a fountain where he drank. He immediately felt better and was cured. In gratitude he placed a stake with a statue of Mary in a small box so that passers-by could pray a Hail Mary here. This was followed by numerous healings of various types: fever, stomach complaints, epilepsy, fractures, paralysis ... Due to the influx of people, this chapel was built in 1833.

The recreation resort 't Fonteintje, known to most people as the' Koersels Kapelleke ', has grown around the chapel of Our Lady on the stake and has been known as a place of pilgrimage since 1826. The watchtower is central in this wooded area. When you climb the almost 30-meter-high tower, you look out over the typical Kempen landscape. A very popular destination, also for the recreational hiker.
