In the 17th century a rockfall created a deep pond that was popularly known as the mermaid pond. The pond was later used to operate a mill, which was destroyed in a downpour in 1849.

This quiet body of water was born as early as the 17th century. A huge rockfall blocked the path of a stream and formed the pond we know today. The name “Mermaid Pond” is no coincidence - popular legends surround mermaids who live in its depths and come to the surface in the moonlight to sing their silvery song.
