With a view of the quite impressive tracks just before the main train station.

With the Hackerbrücke in front of the main train station, Munich welcomes everyone who comes to the city by train. For many travelers it is the signal to prepare for the disembarkation. The bridge leads in six arches, each with a span of 29 meters, over the tracks in front of the main station. It is one of the few bridges in Munich that is under monument protection. The Hackerbrücke was built by MAN between 1890 and 1894, making it one of the few surviving steel arch bridges from the 19th century in Germany. Until the 1970s, the Hackerbrücke was of vital importance for private transport. It was one of the few really efficient connections near the city center, which alleviated the separation caused by the tracks in front of the main station. The traffic pressure was noticeably reduced by the construction of the Mittlerer Ring, in particular by the Donnersbergerbrücke and the de-escalation of the Karlsplatz (Stachus) by opening the pedestrian zone. Nevertheless, the Hackerbrücke is still an important north-south connection over the track apron. The bridge is named after the then nearby Hacker Brewery.
