There are pre-dams with gravity dams made of concrete at both inlets to the dam.
A dam is usually a smaller dam located in front of a dam to hold back impurities (tree trunks, oil, rubble, sediments) carried by the tributaries, which is particularly important for drinking water supply systems.
This in the inlet of the Prims also serves as an opportunity to cross the reservoir and offers good opportunities for photography.

On the circular route around the reservoir you will inevitably pass by here. You can take shortcuts and take great photos.

The Prüm Vorsperre serves to regulate the Prüm and protect that clean drinking water can collect in the Nonnweiler dam.
In addition to the Prüm pre-dam there is the Altenbach pre-dam about 2km away. The Altenbach also feeds water into the dam.
