Definitely worth a detour. Due to the nature reserve and bathing ban, nature is untouched here and the widely ramified reservoir with its many shelters offers a great view in every season.

    Dam Nonnweiler

The Nonnweiler dam with a capacity of around 20 million cubic meters is a water protection area and drinking water reservoir. The dam was built in two phases from 1973 to 1975 and from 1977 to 1982. Overburden from the construction of the A1 was used for the dam. With a volume of 20 million m³ and a surface area of approx. 1km², the dam is the largest Water reservoirs in Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate.

On the dam are the sun and the first planets of our solar system, which is built to scale around the Nonnweiler reservoir with all the planets.

With almost 13 km and a very well-developed bike and hiking path, a circumnavigation is definitely worthwhile.

The Nonnweiler dam with the scaled planetary hiking trail is one of the main tourist attractions in the region. The 12.8 km long circular hiking trail is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. The dam has a capacity of around 20 million cubic meters of water.

Nestled in the wooded high forest landscape, the Nonnweiler dam with its 12.8 km long circular walk is a paradise for cyclists, hikers and nature lovers.

With a capacity of approx. 20 million m³ and a surface of approx. 1 km², it is the largest water reservoir in the Saarland. Its task is to retain excess amounts of Prim's water so that they can be used for the various areas of water management.

The supply of the population with drinking water stood in the foreground of the considerations, as at the end of the 50's the decision matured to build in the deep valley above the local situation Nonnweiler a dam.

The nonnweiler dam is an ideal starting point or turning point for running, hiking and cycling. No longer an insider tip as a training route for marathons and more. 2 lakes runs or bike tours on or off-road, single trail or xc to Bosen or Kell is always a recommendation with almost unlimited combination options. A 3seen xc tour with mtb has actually been a long time plan

Very nice tour around the reservoir. My recommendation is definitely to look at the view from the next higher area. The Celtic ring wall and the Celtic stone staircase.

Well-developed network of trails for many sporting activities. Due to the geographical location, a fresh wind almost always blows here, which you should always plan for. It can be very uncomfortable, especially when cycling.
