Bike Touring Highlight
The monastery Münchsteinach is a former Benedictine monastery in Münchsteinach in Bavaria in the Diocese of Würzburg.
The monastery dedicated to St. Nicholas was founded by the Noble Lords of Steinach in 1102. The bailiwick of the monastery came at the latest in 1265 on King Konradin to the burgraves of Nuremberg and later Margrave of Brandenburg. In the Peasants' War in 1525 the church and monastery were partially destroyed. The monastery was dissolved in 1529 during the Reformation. Münchsteinach became margravial monastery office, which existed until 1792. The monastery church was restored to its original state by a complex renovation in the years 1965 to 1970. At the same time, the original colors from the period around 1180 were uncovered on the pillars of the basilica. Particularly impressive is a saint's representation from this period.
