The monastery church in Münchsteinach is one of the few in Franconia, inside which the mood of the Romanesque construction period still has such a genuine effect on the interested visitor. Surrounded by the dim lighting of the church interior, the shadowy, Romanesque painting of the pillars and arches appears and takes us back to another time, the time of the 12th century.
There is no written information about the construction of the church in Münchsteinach and one is therefore dependent on other sources. The designs clearly show that this is a building from the late Romanesque period, i.e. from the 12th century. More detailed information was obtained when scaffolding wood was found in the excavation of the floor during the last renovation (1965/70), which must have been felled due to the annual ring dating 1173 and 1177.
