This enormous monument, which is unfortunately somewhat overshadowed by the trees, was erected in 1912 to commemorate a victorious defensive battle by the Ammerland farmers on the old military road between Mansie and Fikensholt against invading and plundering East Frisians in the 15th century.
The monument is located on a beautiful but poorly paved hiking and cycling path through the forest near Fikensholt. On the way to the Zwischenahner Meer coming from the northwest, it is a worthwhile stop on a planned route.

This monumental memorial, which reminds of old feuds in the Ammerland, comes across quite unexpectedly in the Fikensolt forest.
