      Gießelhorst

The village of Gießelhorst is attractively linked to the town of Westerstede by the old Gießelhorster Kirchweg.
This path with its old trees between meadows and fields has been beautifully preserved.
The large number of tree nurseries that characterize the village is certainly remarkable in Gießelhorst. Many villagers also have their jobs here. Some nurseries have received high awards, especially for their rhododendrons.
Gießelhorst, with its approx. 520 inhabitants, is one of the younger villages in the municipality. The first documented mention of 1428 was found in the Oldenburg Salbuch of Drosten Jacob von der Specken. Gießelhorst was originally a pure village of mutts.
The first notable building in the village was probably the Gießelhorst post mill, which stood in Gießelhorst from 1608 to 1903. Little by little, courtyards were built around them.
The special gem of the village is the small school. It was built in 1889.

The Gießelhorster Kirchweg is located between Westerstede and Gießelhorst. It's a narrow path that leads between the pastures. It's wonderful to drive on.
