The simple wooden buildings of the former Polenz station are reminiscent of the narrow-gauge railway from Meissen Triebischtal to Wilsdruff, which opened on October 1, 1909. On May 21, 1966, the last passenger train ran on this route, which was part of the extensive Wilsdruffer narrow-gauge railway network (which was also linked to the Mügelner narrow-gauge railway network).

The old Polenzer Bahnhof is part of the extensive network of the "Wilsdruffer Schmalspurbahn", which was shut down between 1966 and 1972/73. In recent years, new cycle paths on the old railway lines lead through the southern Elbe valleys between Dresden and Meißen and follow the course of the Triebisch through a region that has been largely spared from motorized traffic. The former narrow-gauge railway reached with its branches from Meißen via Wilsdruff and Mohorn the Freiberg Mulde near Nossen and led via Klingenberg-Colmnitz to Frauenstein in the Ore Mountains. To the east, the narrow-gauge railway reached the main Dresden-Werdau line in Freital-Potschappel.
