Between Detern and Apen we drive along the small river that leads us from the confluence with the Jümme to this nature reserve. If you change to the right, i.e. northern, waterfront shortly before Apen, you will also pass the Hengstford mill.

The Aper Tief is a river in the municipality of Apen. Coming from the east it flows through the farms Hengstforde, Vreschen-Bokel and Holtgast to merge there into the Jümme. Two retention areas were created along the river, the freshwater mudflats and the floodplain. Due to the connection to the North Sea, ebb and flow are noticeable here with a tide range of 60 to 120cm.
