Grisedale Tarn is in an atmospheric setting high in the mountains at the head of three valleys. According to folklore, a battle was fought in 945AD between the Saxon King Edmund and Celtic King Dunmail. Dunmail was killed and his crown was taken up to the carn and thrown into the water.

The Grisedale Tarn represents mountain pass between Grasmere and Patterdale.

Here walkers meet each other and have one to choose one route out of three:

      1) Valley route (look at my track record). It's recommended if the weather is bad or stormy.

Then no. 2 + 3 are too dangerous.

      2) St. Sunday-route

      3) Helvelyn route

No. 2 + 3 are all-time favorites in the hole Lake District National Park. They promise great views and ridge walks.

The "mountain lake" Grisedale Tarn represents the pass between Grasmere and Patterdale.

Here all hikers meet, who now have to decide which route to take:

      1) Valley variant (see my record), which is recommended in bad weather or strong wind (-> 2 and 3 are then too dangerous!)

      2) St. Sunday route

      3) Helvelyn route

No. 2 + 3 are highlights in the Lake District and promise spectacular views and magnificent ridge walks. (Unfortunately, that did not happen because of the storm ...)
