The parish church of Saint Peter is located along the Halsesteenweg and is surrounded by the walled cemetery and preceded by the tree-lined church square. The church lies in the axis of the presbytery.
The choir of the Saint Peter's Church from around 1250 with a late Gothic transept (1642-1643) was adapted in 1750 during the construction of a Baroque lower church (see chronogram on the west facade: "Meerbeeck Hac Aede Floret"). The Baroque west facade with its inwardly and outwardly curved gable was restored in 1806.
