Much has been written about Victor De Klercq. A heavy man who hid in his basement from the onlookers who wanted to catch a glimpse of Den dik van Pamel ...
Was his obesity hereditary, a morbid condition? Certainly an insatiable appetite, sweets and many pints of beer were also the cause. At his death, weight, height and girth were juggled, all estimates because the Fat did not want to be weighed, and only the tailor was allowed to measure him. According to the 'Gazette van Gent' (12) he weighed 'more than 300 kilos, was over 2 meters tall ...', but two days later that same newspaper wrote that he only weighed 550 pounds (approx. 275 kg), 1, 93 m tall and "his buttocks were a meter thick." In 'Den Dender-Bode' (13), the Fat one weighed 300 kg in the same article, then 'barely' 252 kg, his waist circumference was 2 m. According to Father Van Eyndhoven, he weighed about 300 kg and was 2 m thick, Sis Barbé estimated a weight of 325 kg (14).

Beautiful location on the banks of the towpath along the Dender, next to a small playground. In summer weather you can enjoy an ice cream.
