The Mark rises on the border between the Hainaut communities of Opzullik and Edingen. Then it flows through the Markvallei and flows into the Dender.
The name comes from the Gothic word "marka", which means something like border and indicates that the river was a border or flowed through a border area. Part of the Mark Valley is a nature reserve. Here on this trail you are in direct contact with Mother Nature, which is why you need good shoes, especially in wet weather.
