Tips

  • Stephanie

At its narrowest points, the passage through the Drachenschlucht is only 70 cm wide, on the right and left moss-covered rock walls tower up to 10 m above the gurgling Marienbach. For millions of years there was an approximately 1 km long Kerbtal valley that you can walk through on a boardwalk.

If you take your time, you can discover the special forest of the gorges and, with a bit of luck, watch fire salamanders, toads or the great water shrew. Rare crustaceans and snails live in the moss cushions. The large monogram A at the entrance to the gorge stands for Annatal.

The Dragon Gorge is free and freely accessible all year round.

  • After three weeks of hiking in Thuringia, I can say that this is the most beautiful natural spectacle I have seen. Great how the path meanders through the moss-covered rocks of the gorge.

  • The Dragon Gorge holds many surprises!
In the summer heat, it offers a cool and refreshing place, lined on the left and right by towering, plant-rich rocks.
At the narrowest part of the gorge, the evening chip and chocolate adventures on the couch are clearly visible. :-)
Children love hiking over the stream below.
Occasionally the Drachenschlucht serves photographers and film crews as an incomparable background.

My tip: with the bus (different lines go this route) from the central bus station Eisenach (right next to the Eisenach main station) in the direction of HOHE SONNE and from there downhill enjoy the adventure Drachenschlucht. From the exit of the gorge you can reach a quiet hiking trail along the small creek back into the city at the foot of the Wartburg.

    Have fun :-)

  • It is a very narrow place in the section of the Dragon Gorge.
When the light comes in it is an incredibly beautiful picture

  • A super nice hiking trail when the sun breaks through in the morning 😎 brilliant

  • At the current hot temperatures definitely recommended. Nevertheless, it can be damp and slippery in some places.
And then there is a very tight spot. With oncoming traffic it can come to funny to annoying situations (even experienced).

  • Going through the gorge is an absolute must when you are in the area. What the landscape has to offer here is truly unique and worth every look. Even in the weather when the sun is not shining.

  • Wild-romantic, with a touch of adventure, so it goes through the gorge.

  • For all ages an experience, but please note the weather. Should it be slippery better not go through. For the summer a tip, since it is very pleasant.

  • Beautiful hiking trail, especially for children. From the car park Mariental up to the parking lot Hohe Sonne is about 3.5 km. There and back about 7 km. Even with a dog it is possible, but it is partly on gratings through the gorge, here this dogs must be worn.

  • The whole dragon canyon is quite narrow in several places but here it seems
    to be the narrowest.
The Dragon Canyon is always worth a visit

  • In the lift beautiful to walk. In the afternoon you can still see the Wartburg.

  • Super Rim Dragon Canyon High Sun Wine Road Landgrave canyon! Nearly 12 km. 1.5 hours from the car park through the Drachenschlucht to the Hohe Sonne. Since we have stopped, the snack is nothing special. Dixi loo and supermarket sandwiches are nothing that brings us a second time to stop. Then back on the wine route and down through the Landgrafenschlucht (about 1 hour walk). A traveling dream for us and perfect with 7-year-old child!

  • The Dragon Gorge is a must for every visitor to Eisenach. It is an experience every meter and as a reward there is a Thuringian bratwurst up at the Hohe Sonne.

  • Great during the week! Hikers with dogs should know that some bars are made of metal mesh and are difficult or impossible for smaller dogs to handle. We always have a sheet for the case. Kngeknotet makes it a great carrier similar to a hammock. Ours has 14 kg ... goes on the short distance 😁

  • Can the round dragon gorge ... Landgrafenschlucht also highly recommend, but absolutely also over the Great Dragon stone run, the view is breathtaking in good weather!
