The mouth of the Fösse River is located in the Limmer district of Hanover, where the small river flows into the Leine after about 8 km – very close to the Leine Connection Canal.
The Fösse River is a rather inconspicuous but ecologically interesting body of water. Due to saline inflows from the Benth salt dome and former potash mining dumps, it has an unusually high salinity – in some places even higher than that of the North Sea.
