The lock on Stockhardtweg near Wasserstadt compensates for the difference in height of approx. 2 m between the Hanover-Linden branch canal and the connecting canal to the Leine (formerly the Leine Descent Canal). This was built between 1913 and 1914. With this connection, the former industry in the Glocksee area was connected to the waterway network via the Ihme. Although the lock is nowadays meaningless for commercial shipping, it was extensively renovated in 2007 because the federal government is legally obliged to keep federal waterways open. Only the excursion boat "Wappen von Hannover" and utility vehicles from the waterways and shipping authorities operate on this canal connection, e.g. for maintenance work on the Leine weir. The Waterways and Shipping Office also uses the lock area as a storage area for maintenance equipment belonging to the nearby Leine weir. The canal area just below and above the lock is popular today for walking and, despite the ban, for swimming. At night, especially in winter when there is snow and ice, the lock is an attractive photo opportunity and thus one of the sights of Limmer. You can also get to the Limmer Volksbad via the Stockhardweg bridge.
