Hiking

The head-high watershed obelisk on the outskirts of Steinbach am Wald was originally created in 1850 and renewed in 1956. It lies at an altitude of 624 above sea level. and testifies that the Rennsteig divides the water along its entire length, namely to the north to the Elbe and to the south to the Main and Rhine. In the middle of the island of the roundabout stands the artistic replica of this obelisk.

Hiking

On the island of the roundabout stands the impressive, approximately eight-meter-high glass obelisk. It is not only a landmark for the traditional glass industry in the Franconian Forest, but also marks the great watershed between the Rhine and the Elbe directly on the Rennsteig. After dark, the obelisk is illuminated from within and shines as a blue column of light.

Hiking

The glass obelisk of Steinbach a.Wald is a symbol - it stands for the local glass industry, which has a long tradition here, and is at the same time a commitment to the local habitat. The place for the obelisk was deliberately chosen: The sculpture stands in the middle of the first large roundabout in the district of Kronach - where the watershed between the Elbe and Rhine lies and the famous hiking trail called Rennsteig runs. steinbach-am-wald.de/freizeit-erholung-und-tourismus/sehenswuerdigkeiten/glasobelisk
