This inconspicuous hole in the forest floor has an interesting story to tell: During an air raid on Marmagen on December 26, 1944, the bombs that were supposed to hit the village hit here. So Marmagen was spared. Even today, this event is commemorated annually on Christmas Day 2.

On December 26, 1944, Marmagen was the target of a heavy Allied air raid. However, the bomb carpet missed its target and fell on the outskirts. Fortunately, the village was spared. To commemorate this rescue, the villagers celebrate a thanksgiving service every year on Boxing Day. Source: Information board of the Eifelverein on site
