Via Rockauer Straße we get to the Rockauer viewpoint, also known as "Saxony's Hiefel". The term "boot" stands for a small hill, as the viewpoint is only 260 meters above sea level.

Here Friedrich enjoyed the fascinating view over Dresden and far into Saxon Switzerland. His sketches later served as the basis for some of his paintings. The name of the hill probably came from the dialect pronunciation of the term “Hiefel”, which means hill.
The viewpoint is at around 260 meters. From up here you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Elbe basin and the city of Dresden.

Beautiful view of the Elbe valley. When the visibility is good with a view of Meißen, the Eastern Ore Mountains and the Czech Republic. The Rockau viewpoint is also called “Saxony's Hiefel”, whereby the term “Hiefel” in Saxon means small hill.
