On our tour from Vezélay to Rome, Ballaigues was the first place in Switzerland that we reached, a nice foretaste of everything that should still await us here.

Ballaigues is a picturesque municipality where nature and mountains come together. It is the birthplace of historian and politician Paul Maillefer (1862-1929) and the final resting place of painter and violinist Louis Soutter (1871-1941). The altitude varies between 920 meters and 1,104 meters above sea level. Ballaigues has a mountain climate, characterized by harsh winters and high rainfall throughout the year.
