Lake Adolfo - gravel excavation as a leisure destination for divers, sailors and anglers with bunker ruins of the West Wall from World War II.
Like many other lakes on the Lower Rhine, Lake Adolfo was created by mining sand and gravel. The water is very clear. Depending on the season, the depth of sight is 2 to 8 meters. It is not without reason that a diving club has settled directly on the lake.
From the Wasser.Blick.25 you can see some densely overgrown concrete islands. These are the remains of four bunkers in the west wall, which was built between 1938 and 1940 on the western border of the German Empire. This military defense system stretched over 600 kilometers and consisted of more than 18,000 bunkers, tunnels, trenches and anti-tank barriers. After the Second World War, the bunkers were blown up. However, unlike many others, they were not removed here, but have been preserved as historical evidence.
The lake was created more than 20 years after the end of the war. The namesake is the former owner and long-time member of the Bundestag Dr. Adolf Freiherr Spies from Büllesheim.
If you feel like spending some time at the lake, you can make yourself comfortable on the lawns on the shore or take a walk around the lake. Anglers and divers have the opportunity to buy day tickets from the local clubs.

The Adolfo lake is an excavation water. Sand and gravel were mined here from the late 1960s to 1987. The Rur frames the Adolfsee. There are many species of animals and birds here.
