The Franzosensteig is an easy, secured climbing route with a panoramic platform that leads over the rocks behind the Grevenburg up to the Himmelspforte and is integrated into the Moselsteig. It is a reminder of the French troops who built the Mont Royal fortress in the 17th century.
The ascent takes place via steps partly carved into the rock and a spiral staircase in the "rock". Once at the top, a breathtaking view opens up over the Grevenburg to the Moselle loop near Traben-Trarbach. A head for heights and surefootedness are required to complete the route.
