From the Citadel Hill you have a fantastic view over the Someșul Mic, or Little Samosch, to the city center. With around 325,000 inhabitants, Cluj-Napoca, which was called Cluj until 1974 and is still called that in everyday language today, is the second largest city in Romania and the largest city in Transylvania.

The Citadel of Cluj was a fortress built during the Habsburg period between 1715 and 1735, according to the plans of the military architect Giovanni Morando Visconti, on the top of the hill of the same name. The citadel was built with star-shaped walls, a rampart and a tower, and was surrounded by bastions. Only a few remains of the old citadel remain. Today, the site is occupied by a spacious park with magnificent views of the city.

Wonderful walk up! Not hard but you may feel tired walking up the stairs to this viewpoint. Nice views of Cluj and the Unirii Square.
