The Roman Catholic St. Michael's Church in Cluj-Napoca was built between 1350 and 1480, is considered an important monument of Gothic architecture in Romania and is a landmark of the Transylvanian city. The church stands on land where, according to historical sources, there was previously a cemetery and a chapel dedicated to Saint James. A document from 1349 issued by the papal court in Avignon mentions the granting of indulgences to all who contribute financially to the construction of the church. The construction took place in two stages - from 1316 to 1390 and from 1410 to 1487.

The Roman Catholic Michaelskirche with its three equal-height naves is one of the most important buildings of a Gothic hall church in Transylvania. The beginning of the construction was probably around the middle of the 14th century.

The church was originally to be provided with two towers, but the second tower remained unfinished. The baroque pulpit from the 18th century was created by the two local artists Johannes Nachtigall and Anton Schuchbauer.

At that time, the future king of Hungary, Matthias Corvinus, was baptized in the church. In addition, the enthronement of the rulers of the principality took place here from the 17th century. And in July 1944, Áron Márton, then bishop of Transylvania, preached against the deportation of the Jews.

The church is located in the heart of the old town. It is built 80 m height in gothic style. The tower with its height is the highest in Transylvania. It is free to visit.

The St. Michael's Church (Romanian: Biserica Sfântul Mihail, Hungarian: Szent Mihály-templom, German: Michaelskirche) is a Gothic-style Roman Catholic church in Cluj-Napoca. It is the second largest church (after the Biserica Neagră of Brașov) in the geographical region of Transylvania, Romania.
