I think it's good that such towers from the times of the GDR are still standing so that nothing is forgotten

This is one of 27 sea border observation towers (BT11) built by the former border troops on the GDR's Baltic coast.
A second is in Kühlungsborn, the other towers have been torn down. The task of the usually. towers manned by four men consisted of observing the movement of ships on the Baltic Sea and establishing escape routes.
In the pulpit was a permanently installed telescope with high magnification, with the help of which the sea area could be monitored up to 12 nautical miles.

It's a strange feeling to know that people were looking for fugitives from here. However, I think it is very important not to forget what happened here on the coast.
