The Soviet special camp No. 7, an internment camp, was located in Weesow after the Second World War until August 1945, and was moved to Sachsenhausen.

This is what it says on the information board:

      Place of remembrance

For the dead of the Weesow internment camp

The dead of the Weesow internment camp rest under the Brandenburg sand on the edge of the former gravel pit. It was not until 1992 that it was possible to create a dignified burial place and a place of remembrance for them.

The internment camp of the NKVD existed in Weesow from June to August 1945. Five large farms in the village, which was deserted by the residents at the time - they were on the trek (escape) - were fenced in to protect around 6,000 people, from young people to old men, imprison. Between 800 and 1,500 of them died - from dysentery, other diseases, hunger and emotional distress. Lists of the dead have not yet been made available, only a few names of the deceased have survived.

Their fate admonishes never again to tolerate war, persecution and terror.

At this point was the Soviet special camp No. 7, an internment camp, which was moved to Sachsenhausen after the Second World War until August 1945. Special camps were camps that were set up by the Soviet military administration in the Soviet occupation zone (SBZ) after the end of World War II in 1945 and that existed in the GDR until 1950. The majority of the internees were men between 40 and 60 years of age, around 5% of the prisoners were women. Most of them were arrested on charges of being National Socialists. They included medium and small functionaries of the NSDAP and its branches. A large group was formed by young people between the ages of 12 and 21, mostly accused of having belonged to the organization "Werewolf".

Many did not survive the catastrophic conditions in the camp. Thousands of dead who fell victim to those crimes under Stalin were later discovered in a disused gravel pit on the edge of Weesow.
