One of the six city gates into Rothenburg's old town is the Klingentor. The Wolfgangskirche or Schäferkirche can be visited.

The Klingentor is the northern entrance to the old town and, together with the fortified church of St. Wolfgang built in the outer defensive ring, forms the Klingentor bastion. The blade tower with a height of 37 meters was previously integrated into the city's water supply. It contained an expansion tank into which water from the Bronnen mill was pumped up. A part of the Rothenburg fountain was pissed with this water.

The mighty gate tower built between 1395 and 1400 was built together with the gatehouse and measures a stately 37 meters. Among other things, it served as a water tower until the 19th century and was the terminus of a "high-pressure line" installed in 1594, which led from the Bronnen mill in the Tauber valley high into the city.

In 1587, the adjoining Klingen Bastei was completed as the northernmost gateway to the city and houses the fortified church of St. Wolfgang.
