Hiking Highlight
This Highlight is in a protected area
Please check local regulations for: Nationalpark Harz
The Eckersprung is located in the former border area. This is where the Ecker has its source and later finds its way out of the Harz to meet the Oker. A rest area with benches is laid out extensively. A shelter with the stamp number 136 of the Harzer hiking nobility is available to hikers as a refuge in bad weather.

Slightly smaller than the "Triangular Pole" refuge, but as is well known, there is space in the smallest hut ;-)
If you want, you can stamp for the hiking pin or study the informative boards!

Here the hike from Torfhaus ended until 1989 - then the border fence and the restricted area around the Brocken came, which made a continuation of the hike impossible. Today, nature is protected along the former border as a Green Belt and, as a green corridor, establishes the important link to the normal landscape. An important contribution to species protection for animals and plants.

Brocken plateau was a high-security wing
The inner-German border on the Brocken was strictly guarded. The inner ring on the Brocken plateau was a Soviet restricted area from 1961 because Moscow's westernmost outpost was located here, the listening post with the code name "Jenissej".

Information boards explain very well... the time around the inner-German border 🇩🇪🇩🇪... and its madness.
It's a strange feeling...even if you didn't go through this time yourself...
Relics from that time.
Definitely an interesting historical hike.
Really recommended 👌🏼🪖
