    The French cross is one of the striking points between the Schevenhütte and Langerwehe. The weathered inscription reveals the reason for its establishment: "In 1679, a French officer was murdered and also buried here." Violence over 300 years ago. But also around November 19, 1944, heavy fighting took place at the "French Cross" in the end of the Second World War. This is how it is found in American war diaries. Foothills of the battle raging in the Hürtgenwald for weeks. A day later, the Laufenburg was the scene of bitter fights.
